The Mayville State University men's basketball team looked like it was on the verge of taking down another top-ranked team for the second consecutive night on Sunday. But an 11-point second half lead disappeared before Jamestown College pulled away for a 66-53 comeback win in the championship game of the DAC Tip-Off Tournament in Valley City, North Dakota.
MSU struggled shooting the ball during during the game, but the Comets found ways to hang onto the lead up to midway through the second half. The Comets led by four points at halftime and as many as 11 in the second half, but Jamestown eventually made the plays it needed to and MSU was not able to correct its shooting troubles in time.
The Comets were a troubling 7-of-19 from the free throw line and 6-of-20 from beyond the three-point line.
Gus Kueber was the lone MSU player in double figures with 13 points and also led the Comets with eight rebounds on the night.
